Stewed Beef Stewed Beef is something I grew up eating. Nanny cooked it and Mama cooked it but I never ran into anyone else that knew what it was. When I'd refer to Stewed Beef people would look at me funny and ask if I meant "Beef Stew". You can have Stewed Beef using 12 ingredients and 6 steps. Here is how you cook it.

Ingredients of Stewed Beef

  1. It's 1-2 pounds of stewing beef.
  2. You need 2 tbs of oil.
  3. Prepare 1 of large onion.
  4. It's 2 tbs of minced garlic.
  5. It's 1 of med green pepper.
  6. Prepare to taste of Salt, pepper & adobo.
  7. You need 4 cup of beef broth (I used 2 cup berf broth 2 c chicken broth).
  8. Prepare 2 of bay leaves.
  9. Prepare of Optional (to make thicker).
  10. It's 4-6 of red skin potatoes, cut.
  11. You need 1/4 c of cold water.
  12. It's 3 tbs of corn starch.

So I just figured it was a family thing. Beef stew is the ultimate comfort food. With switched-up ingredients and creative twists, these variations elevate the classic from familiar to fabulous. In a large skillet, saute onion and garlic in oil until tender.

Stewed Beef step by step

  1. Turn burner on to medium heat, add olive oil. Add meat, lightly brown on each side..
  2. Cut/dice/mince, whichever you prefer the green pepper & onion. Once meat is browned add vegetables. Let cook 5 minutes, stir occasionally..
  3. Add potatoes of desired, garlic, salt, pepper & adobo. Let cook 2 minutes..
  4. Add broth & bayleaf. Sprinkle a little more adobo. Let come to a simmer. Cover and cook 1 1/2-2hrs, stirring occasionally & lower heat if comes to a heavy boil..
  5. Optional (to make thicker): Mix corn starch & cold water. Add to pot, stir. Let cook 15 more minutes..
  6. One on the left is no thickening agent, one on right is with thickening agent. Whichever you prefer. Serve with white rice or mashed potatoes..

Stir in the tomato sauce, vinegar, oregano and pepper. Absolutely the best beef stew I've ever tasted. Cook over medium-high heat, scraping the pan with a wooden spoon to loosen any browned bits. Add the beef, beef broth and bay leaves. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a slow simmer.
